The Christley Knows Best castmate has been ordered to pay $755,000 following a defamation lawsuit against the Georgia Department of Revenue Investigator.
According to court documents that were obtained by TMZ, Todd Chrisley’s $755,000 will go towards compensatory and punitive damages, as well as legal fees, to Amy Doherty-Heinze. Chrisley was accused of criticizing and attacking Doherty-Heinze on social media.
The lawsuit was notably started in July 2021 before Todd and his wife were found guilty of tax evasion. In her legal fight against Chrisley, Doherty-Heinze claimed he falsely accused her of illegally snooping on a government program. This was an effort to pull info on his family.
“[Todd Chrisley] began a social media campaign against the GDOR and certain of its employees,” the legal documents read. “Contending that the investigation was illegal and improperly motivated.”
It was further revealed that Chrisley had attempted to get the whole case tossed out of court two months before Doherty-Heinze filed the defamation lawsuit.
Doherty-Heinze is to receive $300,000 in compensatory and $170,000 in punitive damage. Todd Chrisley will also be covering her attorney fees.
Chrisley is serving a 12-year sentence at the FPC Pensacola. His wife is serving seven years at FMC Lexington in Kentucky.
Todd Chrisley Said He’s Facing ‘Retaliation’ in Prison for Speaking Out About Environment
Earlier this year, Todd Chrisley made claims that he was facing “retaliation” after speaking about the prison environment.
Chrisley claimed in 2023 the conditions were “disgustingly filthy” and the food is dated. “It’s a year past expiration, and they are literally starving these men to death here.”
Todd Chrisley also claimed the prison’s staff members are trying to “break and humble” him.
While speaking to NewsNation’s Banfield’s Brian Entin, Chrisley stated the prison is now refusing to allow him into the prison chapel over the interviews he did last year.
“They sent the priest out of here,” Todd Chirsley stated. “In the middle of his service, made him leave. They have never found any contraband in there. This is the second time they did, and they did this one this morning because they got word that I was going to be doing another interview with NewsNation.”
Chrisley claimed the move was to “intimidate” him. “I just walked out and said, ‘It ain’t gonna change what I’m gonna say.’”
Benjamin O’Cone from the office of public affairs for Federal Prison Camp Pensacola told Today that while the organization does not comment on the conditions of confinement for any individuals in custody, he said the prison’s mission is to operate facilities that are safe, secure, and humane.
“We take seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody,” O’Cone said. “As well as maintaining the safety of our employees and the community.”
