Timothy West has died. The British actor, best known for his work in The Day of the Jackal, died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 12, his kids announced on X. He was 90.

In their statement, Juliet, Samuel, and Joseph West praised the “darling father.” They went on to note that he had a “long and extraordinary life on and off the stage.”
“Tim was with friends and family at the end,” the statement read. The post continued by making note of the family members West is survived by.
“He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,” the post read. “All of us will miss him terribly.”
The statement concluded with a word of thanks to West’s medical team. West’s kids applauded the professionals “for their loving care during” the actor’s last days.
West got his professional start in the ’60s on several TV series. His big break came with the Oscar-nominated film The Day of the Jackal in 1973.
He went on to have roles in movies such as The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc and Beyond Borders. He appeared on TV shows such as EastEnders and Gentleman Jack. On stage, the Royal Shakespeare Company member appeared in productions of Macbeth and King Lear.
His final acting credit is an episode of Doctors, a British soap opera, which aired one day after he died.
