According to the local media outlet NOLA.com, the incident happened at approximately 6:41 p.m. in the 1000 block of Decatur Street. Law enforcement revealed that both the suspect and victim were injured in the stabbing and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police confirmed to 4WWL that the suspect was Eugene Kolber, 31. Investigators say that Kolber approached the victim and threatened to stab his dog. In response to the threat, the victim struck Kolber in the head with a ukulele. That was when Kolber pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the side of the abdomen.
After receiving treatment for his injuries, Kolber was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated second-degree battery. He is currently being held at the Orleans Justice Center.
Although Kolber was arrested by New Orleans officials, the investigation into the French Quarter stabbing remains ongoing.
The incident occurred just days after the shocking death of sports reporter Adan Manzano. The Kansas City reporter was on an assignment for Telemundo KC and Tico Sports. He was covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Authorities revealed that Manzano was discovered unresponsive in his hotel room in Kenner.
“Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star. [His] dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work,” Manzano’s employer wrote. “We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community.”
