While promoting her new album Glorious on CBS Sunday Morning, Hudson recalled being told in her early 30s that she was “too old” to make music.
“There was someone who said to me, and it kind of jarred me a little,” she explained. “It was in my early 30s, and they basically said, ‘It’s done. Past. You’re too old.’”
Admitting that the comment resonated for a bit, Kate Hudson refused to let that person give the final say about her music. “I was like, ‘Nah, f— you. No, no one tells me what to do!”
Later in the interview, Hudson said she was really ready for her music career later in her life. “I guess I wasn’t ready for it until now,” she admitted. “I just don’t care anymore what people think. It was never right whether it was my own stuff or feeling afraid to mess up my movie career. It just never felt right.. until now. I’m just doing it.”
Kate Hudson Opens Up On Creating ‘Glorious’
Along with recently announcing her new album, Hudson also released her single Gonna Find Out. In a statement, the actress said making the album helped her find the “core” of who she is.
“I’d say it doesn’t seem real,” Kate Hudson said in the statement. “But the truth is; this is realer to me than anything I’ve done in my entire life. It was always this, I just needed to get to a place where I was ready… and the songs got to the core of who I am.”
Kate Hudson also said that she spent years quietly making music and “living inside” her songs. “I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop talking about it,” she said. “I’m just thrilled so many smart people want to talk to me about Glorious – and the process of making my first record.”
Speaking about Gonna Find Out, Hudson shared it follows her previous tracks Talk About Love and Live Forever. She explained the songs find her looking for a “steamy connection” with a partner.
“I wanted something that was sexy and delicious, vulnerable and strong,” she noted. “Willing and fearless – and especially gloriously in love with the way life takes you on this journey if you’ll just show up and be open. I wanted songs that could reach across all that, and that is a lot to cover.”
Glorious will be released on May 17. Hudson notably worked on the album alongside Linda Perry as well as Johan Carlsson and Danny Fujikawa.
