“All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform,” the e-commerce company explained. “This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify.”
The website is currently being redirected to a notice that reads, “This store is not available.”
West used his Super Bowl LIX commercial to draw viewers to his website while it was selling T-shirts emblazoned with a swastika, an infamous symbol by Nazi Germany. Modern-day far-right extremists also use the symbol. Other items featured symbols supporting the Nazi Germany’s leader, Adolf Hitler.
“So what’s up, guys? I spent, like, all the money for the commercial on these new teeth,” the rapper stated in his commercial. “So once again, I had to shoot it on the iPhone. Um, um, um, go to yeezy.com.”
He didn’t mention what items were available to purchase on his website.
Although the company did not reveal which of its rules the site violated, its terms of service state that it will act “to restrict products or activities that we deem unsafe, inappropriate, or offensive.”
The Anti-Defamation League called out West’s merchandise. “It galvanized his followers in the 20th century and continues to threaten and instill fear in those targeted by antisemitism and white supremacy,” the organization wrote in a statement. “If that wasn’t enough, the t-shirt is labeled on Kanye’s website as ‘HH-01,’ which is code for ‘Heil Hitler.'”
West hasn’t spoken out about his website being shut down.
Kanye West’s Website Shuts Down After He Deactivated His X Account
The website shutdown comes just after Kanye West closed his account on X (formerly Twitter). Milo Yiannopoulos, who acts as a spokesperson for the rapper, told NBC News, “Ye is an intergenerational artist and icon who continues to redefine the limits of creativity and free expression. He has deactivated his X account for the time being.”
Before it was deactivated, West’s X account was restricted after he posted hate-filled, antisemitic rants as well as adult video content. Among the comments he made were “I’m a Nazi” and referring to Hitler as “so fresh.”
“MY TWITTER REACH HAS BEEN LIMITED SO I AM NOT ALLOWED TO TREND DOING SUPER BOWL,” he wrote. “I AM SETTING UP A DISCORD CHANEL ON MY WEBSITE WELCOME TO AMERICA.”
