Reality court TV star Judge Mathis is heading to court after his wife Linda files for divorce after nearly 40 years of marriage.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Linda listed the date of separation as July 17 and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup. The couple married in 1985 and share four children Amir Mathis, Jade Mathis, Camara Mathis, and Greg Mathis Jr.. None of them are minors.
The divorce comes just a couple of months after Judge Mathis and Linda attended the reopening of Michigan Central. In a June 10 Instagram post, Mathis wrote, “GUESS WHO’S BACK?! Detroit celebrated the reopening of Michigan Central, a landmark event with an all-star concert of Detroiters. Linda and I had a great time watching our city shine.”
Judge Mathis previously posted photos featuring Linda in early January. The couple celebrated the end of 2023 by going on a holiday trip to Mexico. “Linda and I had a great time celebrating the holidays in Cabo,” he wrote at the time. “A great way to end 2023.”
Linda submitted the divorce petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday, Aug. 22. Earlier this month, she shared photos of her visiting with family while watching a meteor shower.
“Had a wonderful time hosting my family in Malibu last night to watch the meteor shower,” she wrote in a post on Aug. 12. “It was a first for all of us! Pictured with me is my sister Cheryl, my nephew David, and his beautiful family.”
Judge Mathis hasn’t publicly spoken out about his wife’s decision to file for divorce.

Following the news that Judge Mathis’ wife filed for divorce, the reality court TV star’s social media followers encouraged him to save his longtime marriage.
“We are about to be all in these comments about you and Linda,” one follower wrote. “We don’t play about yall. Whatever it is, work it out. Go apologize. Win your wife’s heart back, please. Your extended family loves yall.”
The follower further wrote, “I feel like my uncle and aunt are splitting up. I hope both of you read the comments together. Don’t let the world rob you of your marriage, please.”
Another follower then wrote, “Please stay together,” while a fellow follower pointed out that marriages and breakups aren’t always easy. “It’s not always [about] dating/relationship,” they wrote. “Some [people] just want peace or to be by themselves, especially after being married for 39 years.”
