Finally ready to speak out, Howard Stern shares his thoughts about the latest diss and the quick walkback apology from comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
As previously reported, Seinfeld had a bit of a moment earlier this month on the Fly on the Wall podcast with David Spade and Dana Carvey.
While chatting about Stern, Seinfeld stated that while the longtime radio talk show host is a great interviewer, he lacks in the comedy department. “Let’s face it, he’s been outflanked by some very [good shows],” Jerry Seinfeld stated about Howard Stern.
Not long after the podcast chat, Seinfeld apologized to Stern for his remarks. “Really feel bad for what I said about my friend Howard Stern in a conversation with David Spade and Dana Carvey, talking about the glut of comedy podcasts.”
Jerry Seinfeld also clarified what he meant about Howard Stern being outflanked. “I meant to say he must feel surrounded but I said ‘outflanked’ which sounded terrible and insulting. And of course, none of these little shows are any threat to his giant show. Anyway, it was bad and I’m sorry, Howie. I still love you. Please forgive me.”
Now well aware of the comments, Stern told his listeners that Seinfeld’s “diss” wasn’t a big deal to him. However, he did find it weird.
“Jerry is a personal friend of ours,” Howard Stern said about Seinfeld on a recent episode of The Howard Stern Show. “Especially his wife, Jessica [Seinfeld], is really good friends with [my wife], Beth [Stern].”
Jerry Seinfeld Was Apparently Having a ‘Bad Week’ When He Dissed Howard Stern
Stern said Seinfeld was having a “really bad week” when he made the comment. “[He] called me immediately and was like, ‘Oh, f—k, I f—ked up, and I want to apologize,” the radio talk show host said. “He goes, ‘You know when you’re on the air, and s—t just comes out wrong?”
Howard Stern also said Jerry Seinfeld did try to explain his diss. “Jerry, you don’t even have to. Please. This is embarrassing,” Stern declared. “I’m the king of going on the air and having millions of regrets afterward.”
Stern continued to clarify that everything is good between him and Seinfeld by saying, “Apology accepted, I don’t care, and you know what? If I’m not a comedian, I’m an interviewer, I don’t know what I am. I always considered myself a bit of a comedian, but whatever it is, don’t worry about it.”
Stern went on to say that Seinfeld wanted to come on his radio talk show to explain him and correct the comment. “I said, ‘Not necessary, I don’t wanna get into it. It’s awkward, it’s fine,’” Howard noted.
“I said, ‘I’ve had to apologize to you for s—t I’ve said, I’ve had to call up people and apologize for s—t I’ve done on the air when I’m a huge fan of these people. I don’t know what gets into me, I f—k up sometimes.”
Howard Stern then added he “didn’t really think much” about the comment.
