Trey and Casey Filter, lifelong Chiefs fans from Wichita, Kansas, made headlines after instinctively stopping an alleged parade shooter by knocking them down as they tried to run from the scene. Their brave actions were caught on video, which was posted on X.
During an interview with Chris Cuomo on his NewNation’s show, spoke out about the situation. “We just did what we felt we needed to do in that moment,” Casey explained. “I don’t think we could have just walked away being right there like that.”
The Kansas City Chiefs parade video showed Trey tackling the parade shooter and knocking their weapon out of reach. Casey then moved the weapon further away from the scene. Casey said she immediately thought about moving the weapon as far away as possible. “It was at my feet. And I just saw it and just moved it, she said.
After watching their parents likely help prevent further harm in the situation, the Filters’ children expressed pride. “They’re pretty proud of their dad,” Casey said about the children. Trey replied, “It’s just really a lot to process and to be grateful for.”
Alyssa Marsh-Contreras also said she witnessed her father, Paul Contreras take down an alleged shooter at the Chiefs parade event as well.
“It all started off as a celebration,” Marsh-Contreras said on Banfield. “As soon as the celebration was done, we heard eight to 10 pops. Everybody assumed it was fireworks of some sort … until seconds later, we see multiple cops chasing them.”
Alleged Shooter Tackled by Couple Among Three Arrested in Connection to the Chiefs Parade Incident
Meanwhile, CNN reported that the alleged shooter tackled by the Filters is one of three suspects in the Kansas City Chiefs parade and celebration shooting.
“Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves told reporters that there hasn’t been a motive so far in the situation. “We are asking those who may potentially have any kind of information, a witness or video, to contact police,” Graves said.
Paul Contreras also said that he lacked another one of the alleged shooters as they were running from the crowd of Chiefs fans. The Kanas City Police arrived on the scene and handcuffed the person, who was pinned to the ground.
The shooting occurred just after the Chiefs parade and rally came to an end. Chiefs players were walking off the stage as gunfire was heard. More than 20 parade attendees were injured, and one person tragically passed away.
