Nearly a year after Marikit “Kitchie” Laurico passed away, Floyd Mayweather honored his late assistant in a touching way.
During the latest episode of the Pivot podcast, Mayweather explained that Laurico was more of an employee to him, she was his best friend.
“Kitchie was the only person in life that I could talk about anything to, that knew my deepest secrets,” Floyd Mayweather explained. “There was no male or female in my life that I told more stuff to than her.”
Mayweather further explained that Laurico taught him a lot and helped him through “rain, sleet, snow or hail.”
Laurico was notably Mayweather’s assistant for more than a decade. Although he had the opportunity to assist her financially, he said she never asked him for help. “All my assistant wanted to do was support me and help me be the best man I can be,” he shared. “And she wanted my kids just to be positive and she was a positive person.”
Although he and Laurico had planned a trip to Aruba for her 50th birthday and to go to the Super Bowl, she passed away in March 2023. Mayweather said he had encouraged her to seek treatment less than a week before her death.
Although it takes a lot to make the famous fighter cry, Floyd Mayweather immediately broke down while talking about his late best friend.
Kitchie passed away on March 31, 2023. Her family issued a statement on Instagram about her death. “Our brilliant Kitchie abandoned the physical garment,” they wrote.
“The ages of Thy loving-kindness descended successively upon her and have ascended her to the spiritual world. We thank all of you who have reciprocated genuine love and positive energy with her.”
Floyd Mayweather’s Daughter Iyanna Previously Paid Tribute to Laurico
Just after the news broke about Laurico, Floyd Mayweather’s daughter Iyanna honored the late assistant with touching Instagram posts.
Iyanna shared a sweet video as well as photos of her with Laurico. “This doesn’t feel real… my heart is so heavy. You were more than just my dad’s assistant you were family.”
“You were the definition of someone with a good heart, you always lifted people up and made them feel good about themselves. Kj loved watching ‘sharkie’ with you. There’s no one like you will truly be missed, love you forever. Rip Kitchie.”
Details about Laurico’s passing, including the cause have her death, have not been revealed.
