Mark Withers, the veteran actor perhaps best known for his role as Ted Dinard in Dynasty, has passed away at 77. Jessie Withers, his daughter, shared with Variety that he died on November 22 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

“He confronted his illness with the same strength and dignity he brought to his craft, creating a legacy of warmth, humor, and dedication, along with his remarkable ability to make every role unforgettable,” Jessie said in a statement per the outlet.
“Mark’s enduring talent and commitment to the industry will be fondly remembered by colleagues, friends, and fans alike,” she added of her father.
In addition to portraying Steven’s boyfriend, Ted, on Dynasty, Withers made guest appearances on a wide range of classic shows. These include Wonder Woman, Magnum, P.I., The Dukes of Hazzard, Hart to Hart, Remington Steele, Dallas, L.A. Law, Days of Our Lives, and Matlock. He also appeared in sitcoms, including The King of Queens and Frasier.

However, Withers managed to gain a new generation of TV fans in the 21st century.
In recent years, he expanded his television career with standout roles in acclaimed series such as True Blood, Criminal Minds, Sense8, Castle, and Stranger Things.
Indeed, Stranger Things fans paid tribute to Withers as news of his death spread. “Always been my favorite side character,” one fan wrote on X. “Really sad to hear about Mark. Guess the Upside Down came calling. Makes you wonder if there’s a reunion in the great beyond,” another fan added.

Before pursuing a career in acting, Withers excelled as an athlete. He earned an NCAA football scholarship to Penn State University.
His acting career began with a national McDonald’s campaign after being discovered by an agent. He went on to feature in commercials for major brands such as Folger’s Coffee, Irish Spring, Crest, and American Airlines.
Withers is survived by his wife, Haiyan Liu Withers, and their daughter. In his memory, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
