Boosler, who attended a Dodgers game on Sunday, posted a video about her experience being arrested.
“I don’t know how your Sunday went, but I bet you it was better than mine,” she said in a YouTube video posted one day ago. “Here are my wrists after being handcuffed for two hours at Dodgers Stadium. That’s right, I was arrested.”
She showed her seemingly bruised wrists to the camera, then mentioned that she didn’t realize that all bags allowed in the stadium must be clear.
“I was so excited to bring my new little baseball bag into the stadium, which is so adorable,” she said, holding up a baseball-themed purse. She then noted that the bag was only ten inches. “It’s nothing, and there’s like nothing in it.”
Apparently, security told her she must bring the bag back to the car or throw it away. She then began arguing with staff.
“We paid $50 to park a mile away, and it’s 80 degrees, and the tickets were $300 in the secondary market, and nowhere did I see it say it had to be a clear bag,” she told them. “You should let me in.”
When they still wouldn’t give in, she went on to list all the ways she’d supported and contributed to the stadium.
“I’ve sung the anthem here five times, I’ve been in the booth 50 times, I’ve done everything extra for the Dodgers stadium a comedian can do,” she argued. “I played in the Hollywood Stars game 10 times. Just let me in with the bag.”
Still, security was not having it.
Comedian Elayne Boosler Was Allegedly Arrested at Dodgers Game
After the back-and-forth between Boosler and the stadium staff, things “got heated,” she said.
“I did lose an F-bomb, but it was quiet,” she said. “And, unfortunately, the guy at the gate was that kinda guy with just a little bit of power … and that’s the most dangerous: guys with a little bit of power.”
Boosler stated that she was with her nephew and his eight-year-old child, who started crying at the time. Staff let the boys in, but they warned Boosler she’d be arrested for trespassing if she didn’t cooperate or leave.
“I said, ‘How could I be trespassing with a $300 ticket in my pocket?'”
She then gave in with a “Fine, arrest me.” And that’s exactly what they did. However, she noted the cops were nice (and she acknowledged white privilege).
Even so, they didn’t seem to enjoy her jokes. When they told her she would have a record after being arrested, she said, “Oh no, I won’t be able to vote! But I will be able to run.”
She then agreed to leave (in a squad car).
“Shame on you, Dodgers Stadium,” she concluded at the end of her video. “Shame on you. You know me. I’ve done so much free work for you for decades, and even if I wasn’t me … for anyone to be treated like that is so awful.”
On the YouTube video, many commenters questioned why Boosler thought she was above the rules or should receive special treatment.
