Not missing a beat, the Los Angeles Chargers trolled Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker in their 2024 Sims-themed game schedule video.
Butker has been under scrutiny after his “misogynistic” speech at the Benedictine College graduation over the weekend. While speaking to the female graduates, Butker stated that while some of them will be excited about their post-college careers, the majority of them are the most excited about their future marriages and children.
Harrison Butker then pointed out that his wife Isabelle, who played basketball and graduated from Rhodes College with degrees in computer science and Spanish, has “embraced” what he says is “one of the most important titles of all,” which is “homemaker.”
“Isabelle’s dream of having a career might not have come true,” Harrison said. “But if you ask her today if she has any regrets on her decision, she would laugh out loud without hesitation, and say, ‘Hey, no.’”
Taking advantage of the situation, the Los Angeles Chargers added a clip of a Sim presumably Harrison Butker wearing a red and white jersey with his number 7 on the back of it as he is baking something in a kitchen.
It didn’t take long for X users to notice the reference. “In the kitchen where he belongs,” one X user declared.
Another X user declared, “THE CHARGERS JUST ABSOLUTELY BURIED HARRISON BUTKER HAHAHAHAHAHA.”
Others praised the Chargers’ media team for putting the scene in the video so quickly. “The Charges social media team putting Harrison Butker in the kitchen is one of the best and most well-timed roasts imaginable.”
While he’s received heavy criticism for the speech, Butker has yet to address the controversy publicly.
Maria Shriver Slams Harrison Butker for Being ‘Demeaning to Women’ in Commencement Speech
Ready to share her thoughts, Maria Shriver slammed Harrison Butker for his commencement speech, stating he was “demeaning to women.”
The former First Lady of California and journalist took to X to speak out about the speech.
“As a woman who has leaned into my vocation of living a meaningful life inside and outside the home to not only raise good humans but also raise up our country in various ways, I think it’s demeaning to women to imply that their choices outside of wife and motherhood pale in comparison to that of a homemaker,” she stated.
Shriver then reminded her followers that it took a “revolution” to get women the right to vote, get birth control pills, checking accounts, maternity leave, and more. “Everyone has the right to free speech in our country,” she continued. “But those of us who are women and who have a voice have the right to disagree with Butker.”
Shriver also pointed out that it is a luxury for Harrison Butker’s wife to be a stay-at-home mother, as many American women don’t have that option.
“I will not tell Mr. Butker to stick to kicking,” she added. “But I would suggest next time he speaks to women first and listen to someone with a clearer take on where most women find themselves in 2024.”
