While the Sooners were making their way across the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium to start the game on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Auburn cheerleader decided to do multiple backhand springs through the line of Oklahoma players narrowly missing the majority of them before flattening player Makari Vickers.
The male cheerleader quickly got up as one of his teammates ran to help him away from the football player. Vicker took his time getting off the ground before heading to the Sooner sidelines to start the game.
Thankfully it appeared that no one was seriously injured from the impact. It doesn’t appear that the cheerleader has been identified.
The ordeal was caught on video and quickly posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Immediately after the video was posted, X users had some thoughts about the accident.
“Why…why are the auburn cheerleaders flipping when the OU players are running out?” one X user wrote. “Like just seems like pure stupidity on auburns part.”
Another X user jokingly declared, “Unsportsmanlike conduct. 15-yard penalty on the kickoff. That is the cheerleader’s 1st unsportsmanlike conduct of the game.”
Despite the unfortunate pre-game moment, Oklahoma ended up beating Auburn 27-21.
Oklahoma Sooners’ Makari Vickers Was Arrested Last Spring
Months before he was flattened by the Auburn cheerleader, Oklahoma defensive back player Makari Vickers experienced some legal woes.
In early June 2024, Vickers was arrested and charged with one count of driving under the influence and one count of possession of marijuana.
A rep with Oklahoma’s athletic department confirmed to Sports Illustrated that the arrest occurred. “We are aware of the matter and it is being addressed internally,” the rep stated.
Sports Illustrated reported that Vickers came to Oklahoma as a 4-star recruit from Munroe High School in Quincy, FL. He played eight games as a freshman.
The Oklahoman further reported that Vickers admitted to smoking marijuana five hours before being stopped by police. He did not have a medical marijuana card.
The media outlet also reported at the time that Vickers was the second Oklahoma football player to be charged in Cleveland County District Court within a week. Receiver Deion Burks also faced three misdemeanor counts — driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, transporting an open container of alcohol and speeding.
