Less than two years after Anne Heche passed away following a terrifying car crash in Los Angeles, the actress’ son reveals that her estate is struggling to pay $6 million debt.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Heche’s son Homer Laffoon claimed the state is “not yet in condition to be closed” due to it being unable to pay its pending charges.
Laffoon, who was named the proprietor of Anne Heche’s estate, shared that the estate consists of a “modest band account, royalty payments, and other residual income from pre-death projects.”
The estate also consists of LLC membership interest related to a podcast Heche helped create and a corporation in which Anne Heche was a sole shareholder. The documents report the corporation was used for projects in development and business functions that were related to Heche’s career.
Laffoon’s report states some assets have totaled to $110,000. Others are currently being appraised. A total of seven creditors have filed claims against the estate. Three of those creditors are seeking $2 million.
These were filed by the couple who owned the house that Heche crashed into during her car accident. The woman, who was renting the house, also filed due to losing all her belongings.
Thomas Jane, who had dated Anne Heche but had ended the relationship before her death, is also among the creditors. He is seeking $149,106.04 from the late actress’ estate.
The report further points out that the creditor claims are totaling more than $6 million and with the “anticipated value of the combined inventories and appraisals,” Laffoon says the estate will not be able to pay its debts.
Laffoon added the sales of his mother’s posthumous memoir Call Me Anne were not strong and totaled less than $25,000.
Anne Heche Involved in Three Motor Collisions the Day She Crashed Into LA Area House
According to multiple reports, Anne Heche was involved in a sequence of three motor Heche collisions while driving through the Mar Vista neighborhood in Los Angeles. All three accidents took place in a span of 30 minutes.
The actress was caught on video driving her Mini Clubman away after hitting an apartment garage. The collision caused minor damage. She then stuck a Jaguar without stopping, with another video showing she almost hitting a pedestrian as well.
During the final collision, Anne Heche lost control of her vehicle and drove through a house on the 1700 block of South Walgrove Ave.
It took nearly 60 firefighters to rescue Heche from the wreck, which started a fire. The blaze took more than an hour to fully extinguish. The firefighters were unable to get Heche out of the vehicle for 45 minutes. She had sustained severe burns and smoke inhalation injuries.
After being rushed to a nearby hospital, Anne Heche lost consciousness. She was reportedly in a coma while in critical condition.
Days later, Heche’s rep stated she was not expected to survive after she sustained an anoxic brain injury. She was taken off life support and was legally declared dead on August 11. She was 53 years old at the time.
Along with Laffoon, Heche was the mother of son Atlas, whom she shared with ex-husband James Tupper.
