The small plane made the emergency landing around 3 p.m. on Mockingbird Lane near a feeder road connected to Zac Lentz Parkway, also known as State Highway Loop 463, in Victoria, Texas. The city is about 85 miles north of Corpus Christi.
“We are glad that it wasn’t worse than what it is. This is not something we see every day,” Deputy Police Chief Eline Moya told reporters. “But we are glad that people seem to be OK and they are getting checked out.”
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft was a twin-engine Piper PA-31. It was confirmed that only the pilot was aboard.
The Internet Reacts to Footage of a Small Plane Crash Landing on a Texas Street
Of course, denizens of the Internet weighed in on the wild footage of the small plant making an emergency landing on a busy Texas street.
“Pilot did the best they could. This happens often when an aircraft loses power over an urban area. Often, the best choice is a straight roadway,” one armchair expert speculated on X.
“Looks like he might have done OK had the overpass not been there,” a second X user added.
However, not everyone who saw the footage was so supportive.
“These pilots are selfish. If you’re going down, stay away from houses and roads,” one angry onlooker declared. “You don’t jeopardize others’ lives to save your own ass. That’s reckless as hell,” another agreed.
Meanwhile, the FAA said it is looking into what caused the unusual landing.
