More than a year after the Galactic Starcruiser shut down, Walt Disney World has revamped the Star Wars–themed resort… In an extremely boring way.

According to PEOPLE, the ill-fated hotel experience, which was only open for a year and a half and was behind Disney World’s Hollywood Studios park, is being repurposed into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.
The new creative hub will be used for the Disney Imagineers who are working on Disney World’s upcoming attractions. This includes Tropical Americas Land, which will replace the fan-favorite DinoLand U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom. The Imagineers are also working on Villains land as well as the Frontierland expansion. Both projects are at Magic Kingdom.
Disney World’s Galactic Starcruiser first opened in March 2022. The experience had incredible Star Wars-theme amenities. This included the Crown of Corellia Dining Room, the Lightsaber Training Pod, the Climate Simulator, and the Sublight Lounge.
Although an exciting experience, many Star Wars fans were unable to get past the cost of staying at the resort. It was $4,800 for two people and nearly $6,000 for a family of four. Guests also couldn’t get past the bumpy “pods” transportation to and from Star Wars’ Galaxy’s Edge land at Hollywood Studios.
Disney Offers Other ‘Star Wars’ Experiences Following Galatic Starcruiser’s Closure
Despite Galatic Starcruiser’s failure, Walt Disney Company offers other experiences for the die-hard Star Wars fans.
On May 4, 2021, it was announced by Forbes that Disney Cruise Line’s ship, Disney Wish, would offer the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge. This is an adult-only cocktail bar that offers a “luxury interstellar ship” theme.
“This space is going to be completely unique, only found on Disney Cruise Line,” Laura Cabo, creative portfolio executive with Disney Imagineering, explained.
She also stated that it was a “very elegant upscale, sophisticated adult space.”
“But as you come into it, you will just be consumed by the special custom-made media,” Cabo pointed out.
The lounge offers a virtual window that shows planets like Batuu, home to the Black Spire Outpost of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land, Tatooine, and Mustafar. The space also has a holotube that shows holographic models of what would be other nearby ships in space.
“Inspired by lavish starcruisers like Dryden’s Vos’ ship in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Hyperspace Lounge offers a richly themed, immersive experience for adults every evening—with interactive tasting experiences and signature cocktails inspired by the Star Wars saga,” the lounge’s description reads. “While relaxing over refreshing galactic concoctions, experience hyperspace jumps to several planets in the Star Wars universe to take in the epic views—ranging from serene vistas to action-packed encounters.”
