The cause of death for Missouri college student Riley Strain has been disclosed nearly three months after he was found dead.

According to an autopsy report obtained by Nashville’s WSMV, Strain’s cause of death was determined to be drowning and ethanol intoxication.
The manner of death was classified as accidental, and the report indicated that there were no signs of significant trauma. The report also revealed that Strain’s blood alcohol content was measured at .228.
As reported by ABC affiliate WKRN, the Metro Nashville Police Department classified Strain’s death as “accidental” on March 23. A preliminary autopsy found no evidence of foul play.
Riley Strain Last Seen By Friends on March 8th
The 22-year-old Strain was last seen by friends on March 8, after being asked to leave Luke Bryan’s bar and restaurant in Nashville.
Before his disappearance, Strain, a University of Missouri student, traveled to Tennessee with his Delta Chi fraternity brothers for their annual spring formal.
On March 12, authorities released surveillance footage showing Strain stumbling while crossing a street.
Two weeks later, on March 22, the Nashville Police Department announced the discovery of Strain’s body in the Cumberland River, about 8 miles from downtown Nashville. “No foul play-related trauma was observed. An autopsy is pending,” the department posted on X at the time.
At a press conference held on the day Strain’s body was discovered, his family expressed their gratitude to everyone who aided in the two-week search.
“We’re quite thankful for everything that you’ve done for our family,” Strain’s stepfather said. “The grace that you’ve given us, it means a lot, more than you’ll ever know.”
“I just ask that you mommas out there hug your babies tight tonight, please,” added his mother Michelle Whiteid. “Please, for me.”

Last month, the University of Missouri paid tribute to Riley Strain by honoring his life and achievements. During a commencement ceremony, the university awarded his diploma to Strain’s family, recognizing his academic accomplishments.
Both Strain’s parents and step-parents attended to accept the diploma on his behalf. During the ceremony, a presenter first announced Riley Strain’s name, followed by a moment of silence to honor him. This tribute concluded with a standing ovation and applause for Strain.
