With the Invictus Games taking place in Canada next week, Prince Harry is poised to reunite with one royal couple while attending the sports event. Danish royal family’s website revealed that Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will attend the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 on Feb. 14-15.

Like Prince Harry, the royal couple lives in the U.S. Prince Joachim, the younger brother of King Frederik of Denmark, works at the Danish Embassy under the Ministry of Defense. The couple moved after the prince’s mother, Queen Margrethe, stripped his children of prince and princess titles. She described the move as a “necessary future-proofing” of the Danish monarchy.
Prince Joachim shares sons Count Nikolai and Count Felix with his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg. The former couple was married for 10 years, divorcing in 2005. He then married Princess Marie, with whom he shares children Count Henrik and Countess Athena.
The removal of the children’s titles took effect on Jan. 1, 2023. One year later, Queen Margrethe abdicated the throne. Although she apologized for the family fallout from the decision, she stuck to her “difficult” commitment.
“We weren’t happy about the way it happened,” Princess Marie also said during an interview with The Washington Post last spring. “But it’s a family thing. It’s complicated.”
Prince Harry, who was a former British army captain, created the Invictus Games as an international sports tournament for the wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans. He has also organized the seventh cycle, which will take place in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, from Feb. 8 to Feb. 16.
Invictus Games Foundation CEO Praised Prince Harry For Creating ‘Extraordinary Opportunities’ Within the Sporting Event
Earlier this week, Invictus Games Foundation CEO Dominic Reid spoke to PEOPLE about Prince Harry’s involvement in the exciting sporting event.
“It is very important to him as a soldier, it’s very important to him as a person,” Reid said about the Invictus Games. “He has absolutely been the person giving guidance and direction. That has been a joy to be involved with.”
Reid also stated that the Invictus Games was important to Prince Harry for his recovery and journey.
“There’s a really strong synergy between him and the Foundation, and it’s a great thing,” Reid then added. “Most people see that and respond warmly to it. We all get something from it for our own reasons. But he has created extraordinary opportunities to an extraordinary number of people. They feel seen and heard and cared about.”
Prince Harry also revealed that he first got the idea for the Invictus Games after attending the Department of Defense Warrior Games in 2012.
“Sport was the magic that I witnessed,” he recalled, per Vanity Fair. “Having just come back from Afghanistan myself, seeing the wounded, injured, and sick and seeing the effect this was having on all the families, and just the weight—the load on defense and on the individuals and on the rehabilitation programs. There just wasn’t enough being done.”
