During the latest episode of Sibling Revelry, Hudson spoke about growing up with his mother, Goldie Hawn.
“My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about, interestingly enough,” Oliver Hudson stated. He opened up about life after Hawn divorced his absent father, Bill Hudson. “Because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all of the time, so I felt unprotected at times.”
However, the actor still stated the First Wives Club star is an amazing mother. But he still struggled with her work schedule and personal life choices.
“She would be working. She had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like,” Oliver Hudson continued. “This is my own perception as a child who didn’t have a dad and needed her to be there. And she just wasn’t [there] sometimes and she came out far more than even my dad who wasn’t there.”
Hawn continued to raise Oliver and his sister, Kate Hudson, solo until she met Kurt Russell in 1983. Despite never getting married, the couple has been together ever since.
Oliver Hudson Previously Opened Up About His Childhood Road Trips WIth Sister and ‘Badass’ Mom
In March 2021, Oliver Hudson took a stroll down memory lane and recalled the road trips he, his sister Kate, and “badass” mom Goldie Hawn had while growing up.
“It [has been] great to get off the grid, and to be together with no devices,” Hudson told PEOPLE. “We just have books and old-school movies, and it’s been really amazing, very fun and a great activity — a great way to bring everyone together..”
Sharing his real thoughts about his mother, Oliver Hudson declared, “My mom was — is — badass. We did a bunch of road trips, honestly. There are a couple in particular that are very memorable just because we were young. We were in the Southwest just cruising around in her van, and it just felt free.”
Hudson then said that during the road trips, they didn’t have the technology they now have. They also weren’t stopping and watching TV. “It was just this freedom of being out in the world with nothing but us and the wilderness and nature.”
In regards to their “go to” music artist to listen to on the road, Hudson answered, George Michael. “So it was a lot of George Michael blasting from the van and a lot of stops along the way, and that’s the beauty of camping, too,” he added. One minute you’re in the most beautiful moment of your life, and then the next, you’re throwing up over the Grand Canyon, trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with your kid. It’s fun, all of it.”
