During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chenoweth spoke about the situation, noting the backlash nearly broke her.
“It was tough on me,” she admitted. “But I’m not going to answer any questions about it because I dealt with it. It nearly broke me, and that’s all I’m going to say. You probably know my heart, so you probably know.”
Just after Kirk was fatally shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in September, Chenoweth took to Instagram to speak out. “I’m. So. Upset,” she wrote. “Didn’t always agree but appreciated some perspectives. What a heartbreak. His young family. I know where he is now. Heaven. But still.”
The remarks were shocking to Chenoweth’s fans due to Kirk’s strong stance against the LGBTQ+ community, specifically towards transgender people. Fans were quick to slam Chenoweth for what she said.

The Wicked star later addressed the outrage by stating, “I saw what happened online with my own eyes. And I had a human moment of reflection.”
“I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks, and that hurt me,” she continued. “So I would never — it’s no secret that I have been, that I’m a Christian, that I’m a person of faith. It’s also no secret that I am an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.”
Chenoweth further acknowledged that Christianity and LGBTQ+ advocacy don’t usually “go together.”
However, she added, “But for me it always has and it always will.”
In addition to Kristen Chenoweth, other celebrities who spoke about Charlie Kirk’s shocking death included Jamie Lee Curtis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rosie O’Donnell, and Chris Pratt.
