Hemsworth stated he would love to have Costner as a director. “I was like ‘Goddamnit!’ [I spent an hour the other day trying to convince him and he was like, ‘I’m doing it, kid.’ Didn’t work. I didn’t get the part.”
While speaking about the film project, Chris Hemsworth said it was an “abstract” love story about a man and a woman.
Hemsworth also said his wife, Elsa Pataky, wanted to see him in the film. “There’s horses involved, [the man] is a horse wrangler, and my wife read it and loves horses. We have 10 or 11 horses back home and so she’s like, ‘You’ve got to do this.’”
Although he lost the role to Kevin Costner, Chris Hemsworth did say the project is “better seen in [the Yellowstone star’s] wheelhouse for sure. as far as the kind of Western environment.”
Kevin Costner Shares His Thoughts About Chris Hemsworth’s Audition Story
Meanwhile, Kevin Costner also spoke to Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon 2024. When asked about Chris Hemsworth’s audition experience with him, the Robin Hood actor had some thoughts. He stated the Thor star would have to “wait his turn.”
“As long as I’m still young enough to play it, I’ll play it,” Costner said about the role.
However, Kevin Costner praised Chris Hemsworth for his acting abilities. “He’s so handsome and he’s so good. He’s going to have to go find his [own] love story. [But] I’m glad he likes this one.”
Costner also said he wouldn’t mind working with Hemsworth on another film project in the future. “If I reach a moment where I [don’t] think I could do that, I would [reach out]. He’s certainly one of our great leading men right now.”
While continuing to speak to Entertainment Tonight, Kevin Costner chatted about his son, Hayes, starring in the upcoming film Horizon: An American Saga. Costner is starring and directing the film.
Speaking about his son not auditioning for the role, Costner declared, “I don’t give great parts away. I understand there’s young actors out [there] that would kill for these parts. And so mine have to respect the profession. But in certain instances, this was something I thought he could handle.”
Costner added that he wanted Hayes close to him and that’s one fo the reasons he got the role. “So we’re locked together in a film forever. Actually, I’m not in any scenes with him, but I directed him when he was little and now he’s big.”
