While speaking to Entertainment Tonight’s Cassie DiLaura, Cena spoke about Kelce’s potential career change from sports to entertainment. “I would inspire him to reflect on his journey,” Cena shared. “He didn’t become a Super Bowl champion in a year. I bet he started playing football at a very young age.”
John Cena further explained that while many people believe he was “born to entertain,” he doesn’t believe that’s accurate. “I worked very hard and suffered a lot of setbacks and looked ridiculous and had a lot of failures,” he said. “But I have a lot of people supporting me, and I just never gave up.”
John Cena then shared his advice to Travis Kelce. “Should he choose another skill, look at how [long] it took to be fluent in football,” he added. “It’s gonna take that long to be fluent in another skill. Just surround yourself with great teammates and good things will come from it.”
Travis Kelce Said He Ponders Retirement ‘More Than Anyone Could Ever Imagine’
John Cena’s advice to Travis Kelce comes just a couple of months after the NFL star told The Wall Street Journal that he ponders retirement more than anyone could ever imagine due to the wear and tear football causes.
“The pain. The lingering injuries – the 10 surgeries I’ve had that I still feel every single surgery to this day,” Kelce admitted. “I love (playing football)… I just love the challenge that it gives me every single day to try and be at my best.”
While in the offseason, Travis Kelce has focused on other career paths. This includes guest hosting on Saturday Night Live. “That’s the point of the offseason, getting out there and being able to find what you love to do,” he continued. “I’ve been fortunate to do a few things outside of the sports world that I’ve been enjoying doing, like getting on camera. The SNL stuff kind of opened up a new happiness and maybe a new career path for me.”
He then added, “But it’s funny for me to even say that at this point in my career. I think it’s so much further down the road than it is right now.”
However, just before the Super Bowl, Travis Kelce shut down the retirement talk. “I have no reason to stop playing football,” he told reporters.
