A tabloid claims Courteney Cox is getting revenge on Jennifer Aniston for teaming up with Reese Witherspoon on a TV show by becoming friendlier with her ex, Justin Theroux. The story is completely ridiculous and untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk it.

According to OK!, Cox is so upset about her “Friends” co-star partnering with Witherspoon on the Apple series The Morning Show that she decided to help plan Theroux’s birthday party, leaving Aniston “utterly betrayed.” An anonymous source tells the outlet, “Courteney didn’t organize Jen’s 50th at the Sunset Tower, so Jen can’t get her head around why her so-called best friend has gone behind her back to make such an effort with Justin.”
The alleged insider goes on to say that Aniston “called Courteney in tears” when she learned the actress was organizing Theroux’s party, “accusing her of taking it a step too far by planning her ex’s big day.” The supposed tipster adds adds that Cox hadn’t even invited Aniston to the party, and although she offered the actress an invite during the phone call, “there was no way Jen was going to accept the invitation at such late notice.”
The tabloid’s bogus story is absurd and based on old narratives that Gossip Cop has already corrected. Earlier this year, we busted Star‘s sister outlet, the National Enquirer, for falsely claiming Cox was trying to sabotage Aniston and Witherspoon’s TV show by teaming up with Lisa Kudrow on a series. The story was a total work of fiction as Cox and Kudrow aren’t developing a show together.
Earlier this week, another tabloid made up a story about Aniston feeling “betrayed” by Cox because she helped Theroux celebrate his birthday. The article was only concocted because Cox was photographed visiting Theroux’s New York City apartment over his birthday weekend. There’s no indication she helped plan any sort of big bash. Meanwhile, Aniston is on good terms with her ex and isn’t the least bit bothered by Cox staying in touch with him.
This made-up storyline is coming from an unidentified “source,” but Aniston’s spokesperson confirms on the record that there’s no truth to any of it. Just last month, in fact, Aniston and Theroux reunited to bury their late dog Dolly. There’s no animosity between the exes.
Gossip Cop can also confirm that Cox isn’t angry about Aniston making a TV show with another actress. The longtime friends vacationed together in Mexico in June, and also celebrated the Fourth of July together, long after Aniston’s show with Witherspoon had wrapped production. This latest article is attempting to combine two false narratives, one involving Witherspoon and another involving Theroux, to create a fake feud between Aniston and Cox. It’s all nonsense.
