McCaffrey, who is a former player at Iowa and the son of Iowa’s coach Fran McCaffrey, took to his Instagram Story to post a picture of Clark exiting the court for the final time in her collegiate career.
“MY GOAT,” he wrote with two heart and a heart gesture emoji. This gesture symbolized Caitlin Clark’s signature move on the court throughout her senior basketball season.
Responding to McCaffery, Clark reposted the sweet message on her own Instagram Story.
Although it remains unclear when the duo started dating, Caitlin Clark went public about her relationship with McCaffrey last summer by sharing a photo of them in a boat. “Best end to summer,” she captioned the post.
Since then, McCaffrey has been a key supporter for Clark throughout the season.
According to PEOPLE, Clark scored 30 points, eight rebounds, and five assists during the championship game. Unfortunately, the Hawkeyes lost to the Gamecocks 87-75.
Dubbed NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, Clark is projected to be selected first overall by the Indiana Fever.
South Carolina Head Coach Dawn Staley Thanked Caitlin Clark For ‘Lifting’ Up Women’s Basketball
During her speech after the NCAA championship, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley thanked Caitlin Clark for everything she did during the 2023-2024 basketball season.
“I have to congratulate Iowa on an incredible season,” Staley stated, per PEOPLE. “I want to personally thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport. She carried a heavy load for our sport, it just isn’t gonna stop here on the collegiate tour.”
Staley also pointed out Clark’s potential professional career. “When she’s the number one pick in the WNBA draft she’s going to lift that league up as well.”
Staley, who just won her third national championship win, declared, “So Caitlin Clark, if you’re out there, you are one of the GOATS of our game and we appreciate you.”
Staley also praised the Gamecocks for their undefeated season. “They made history,” she said about her plays. “They etched their names in the history books when this is the unlikeliest group to do it. God is funny like that. He’s funny. He rips your heart out and he makes you believe. He makes you believe the unimaginable.”
The Gamecocks were eliminated by the Hawkeyes during the Final Four round last year. Staley added that she hopes the team can erase whatever paint they had last year.
