Multiple sources reportedly claim that Britney Spears should have remained under conservatorship due to concerns about her mental health.
Although the original arrangement set up by her father, Jamie Spears, was harsh, the former teen idol reportedly faces serious mental health issues that need a lot of support, according to people close to her. Sources close to Spears have expressed to Page Six their concerns that she may be resorting to alcohol and substance abuse.
The 42-year-old pop singer was captured in a state of distress outside Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, on Wednesday evening. Subsequently, she took to social media to post a video of her swollen ankle.
The incident at the hotel occurred mere hours after the finalization of her divorce from her third husband, Sam Asghari. Their marriage had lasted only a year.
A source expressed to Page Six their concern that she might be resorting to substance abuse. “I hate to say it, but the way this is all going — this is what we feared,” they told the outlet.
In the video, Spears stated she had sustained an injury by twisting her ankle due to a fall. Contrary to her claim, reports suggest she was involved in an altercation with her boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz, at the hotel, leading to the involvement of paramedics.
Britney Spears’s 13-Year Conservatorship Ended in 2021
Britney Spears’s 13-year conservatorship, which controlled her finances and health, ended in November 2021. This was amid public outrage, especially towards her father. Recently, Britney settled her legal case against Jamie, claiming he mismanaged her funds, by agreeing to pay his $2 million legal fees.
However, an insider deeply knowledgeable about the court case expressed disagreement with the proceedings of the court.
“The narrative of Britney having been locked away for no good reason other than her dad being evil and wanting to work her for every last penny has always been wrong,” the source told Page Six.
“I have never believed that Jamie is the villain in this situation,” an insider close to Britney’s father told the outlet. “He has been unfairly vilified by people who know nothing about the situation and have nothing to do with it. I hate to say it, but he could be vindicated.”
The insider also noted that in ending the conservatorship, LA County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny did not require Britney to have an evaluation.
A former boyfriend of the pop singer, who dated her during her conservatorship, also spoke to the outlet. “I think she needs to get off all meds, avoid drugs and alcohol, and pick up the Bible,” they said.
“She always said, too, that she wanted to go home to Louisiana. I hope she does. I’m not sure why she’s still in LA. It’s a cesspool there,” the former boyfriend added.
