With Egg Prices Soaring, the Nation Mourns the 18-Wheeler Full of Eggs Crashing
Of course, the egg catastrophe feels particularly harrowing in the year of our lord 2025. According to CBS News, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts a 20% increase in egg prices this year.
Bird flu was first identified in a U.S. commercial flock three years ago. Recently, the outbreak has grown much worse. The USDA reported that 17 million egg-laying hens were culled in November and December alone. In January, the situation escalated further, affecting 85 commercial flocks, including those with egg-laying hens.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average cost of a dozen large, grade-A eggs rose to $4.15 in December. That’s up from $3.65 in November.
With even Waffle House deciding to implement a 50-cent per egg surcharge on their breakfast fare, the sight of the eggs spilling all over the highway sent a beleaguered nation sizzling.
“I hate to be that person but I think an egg delivery truck crash is a conspiracy when eggs are expensive as hell,” one X denizen wrote after seeing the footage.
The most expensive accident to date. That’s like a billion dollars worth of eggs right there. https://t.co/flUKXXQcaw

“Prices about to be eggspensive,” another X user yolked… I mean, joked.
Meanwhile, at least one onlooker saw a missed opportunity.
“I’ve never looted, but man, $10 for 18 eggs got me thinking I would have rolled a few away…” they wrote.
