In a post on Facebook, Simmons stated he was dying, but did not reveal from what. “I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am ….dying,” Simmons said. “Oh, I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death.”
Richard Simmons then stated, “Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to enjoy your life to the fullest every single day,” Simmons continued. “Get up in the morning and look at the sky… count your blessings and enjoy.”
Walking back his original comment, Simmons clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s actually fine and not dying. “Sorry many of you have gotten upset about my message today,” he wrote. “Even the press has gotten in touch with me. I am not dying.”
Revealing the real meaning of the statement, Richard Simmons wrote, “It was a message about saying how we should embrace every day that we have. Sorry for this confusion.”
Simmons’ supporters quickly took to the social media platform to encourage the fitness guru. “Leave the man alone,” one supporter wrote. “Y’all been clowning on Richard for over 40 years now. Stop it.”
Another supporter added, “We’re all dying. If you don’t die today or tonight, you might die tomorrow. Death is the only thing we can look forward to.”
Simmons has been out of the public eye since 2014.
Richard Simmons’ Biopic Is Currently in Development
Meanwhile, Richard Simmons previously made headlines after his biopic was announced.
However, Simmons quickly dismissed the upcoming film, stating he didn’t support it. “Don’t believe everything you read,” he stated. “I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful.”
Pauly Shore will be taking on the role of Richard Simmons in the biopic, titled The Court Jester. “I’m really excited about sharing Richard Simmons’s life with the world,” Shore wrote in a statement. “We all need this biopic now more than ever.”
“Simmons represented mental health, getting people in shape and being his authentic silly self! Whenever he was on TV you could never take your eyes off of him and he brought such a joy to his appearances that represented nothing but a good time.”
The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
