Not the experience she was expecting, Kesha admitted she didn’t know that she was waving around a real butcher knife during her bloody set at Lollapalooza late last week.

Following her crazy but epic performance, the “Tik Tok” hitmaker took to X (formerly Twitter) to make her confession. “Soooooo apparently the prop knife went missing and they replaced it with a real butcher knife stolen from the kitchen,” she declared. “I didn’t know. Till now. So watch that again.”
The crazy performance was done while Kesha was performing her track “Backstabber” on the Chicago music festival stage on Thursday, Aug. 1. She didn’t reveal who actually replaced the knife, but she was happy about her appearance at the festival. “Grateful for my boys,” she wrote on Instagram Story the same night. She also shared footage of herself hugging her band members. “[And] so grateful for my besties.”
According to Us Weekly, Kesha’s performance at Lollapalooza was the first public show she’s done since leaving Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records in Dec. 2023. The label produced five of her most recent albums.
The performance also took place a little over a month after Kesha and Dr. Luke settled their defamation lawsuit. In 2014, Kesha accused the producer of assaulting her in 2005 when she woke up in his head “sore and sick with no memory of how she got there.”
The singer named him in a lawsuit, accusing him of threatening to “shut her career down” if she mentioned the alleged situation. In response, Dr. Luke denied all of the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against her. His lawyer also stated her accusations were part of a “campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements.”
Kesha Recently Stated She’s ‘Free to Release’ New Music Following Her Departure From Dr. Luke’s Record Label
During an interview with V magazine earlier this year, Kesha was excited to announce that she was free to release new music following her departure from Dr. Luke’s record label.
“I’ll say … to all my fans, all my animals, this has been a ride. I’ll say that there is a day — although I won’t say the day — but there is a day marked on my calendar when I am free to release music,” she explained. “So just know that she is out here in the woods writing and singing till 4 in the morning, ferociously. I am being a feral wild woman out here. So just know that.”
Kesha went on to speak about her mental health since the split from the record label. “I’ll say this: I’ve never felt happier, more excited, more at peace and had such a purpose in my entire life,” she shared. “And I feel like I have earned the right to be this happy for sure. So letting that be … I am loving every minute of what feels like a brand-new and very exciting chapter.”
