On June 15, the 42-year-old Princess of Wales and the 75-year-old King, stood together on Buckingham Palace’s balcony during the King’s birthday parade. Princess Kate and King Charles shared smiles and conversations throughout the event, joined by Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and other family members.
“Family is really important to the Princess of Wales and she wanted to be there to support her family,” a royal insider told People about Kate’s choice to attend the ceremony.
Both Middleton and King Charles are receiving treatment for cancer. Kate’s presence at Trooping the Colour was particularly significant as it marked her first public appearance since she announced in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy.
Trooping the Colour is a historic British tradition, featuring the annual parade of the British Army in honor of the monarch’s official birthday.
Kate Middleton Showed Her Support for King Charles by Attending His Birthday Ceremony
Kate showed her support for her father-in-law by attending this esteemed event. After arriving at Buckingham Palace by car with her family, she rode in a horse-drawn carriage with her three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
Middleton, in a white dress and Philip Treacy hat, traveled with her kids in the historic Glass Coach, used since 1881 for royal brides. Since marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate has joined Trooping the Colour annually, except in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.
The day before, Middleton released a statement about her ongoing cancer treatment.
“I am making good progress,” Middleton wrote on X. “But as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
“[I] hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” she added.
