During a recent interview with Chat Sports, Butker spoke about how the speech opened up “a lot of good conversations.”
“A lot of guys had different opinions about it,” he explained about his teammates’ reactions. “But we all love each other in that locker room, and we all know who we are, and I think all the guys understood where I was coming from. I know they respect me and respect what I have to say. I got nothing to apologize for.”

“God has given me this platform,” Butker also stated. “And I’m going to say what I believe to be true and what I hold close to my heart. Anything that comes, I’m blessed to be on the Chiefs and be in another Super Bowl.”
During his commencement speech at Benedictine College in Missouri, Harrison Butker caused quite a stir with “misogynistic” remarks.
“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” he stated to the female graduates. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
He further stated, “I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker.”
Harrison Butker’s Teammates Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes Previously Spoke Out About the Commencement Speech
Days after Harrison Butker’s speech went viral, Travis Kelce spoke out about his teammate’s remarks.
“I know Harry, and I saw him in the building. I call him Harry; I might be the only person who calls him Harry,” Kelce said during a May 2024 episode of his New Heights podcast. “That just tells you, I mean, I’ve known him for seven-plus, eight-plus years, and I cherish him as a teammate.”
Kelce said Butker treats everyone he’s introduced to him with nothing but respect and kindness.
“That’s how he treats everyone,” Kelce continued. “When it comes down to his views and what he said at the commencement speech, you know, those are his [views]. “
Kelce pointed out that he disagrees with the majority of Butker’s views. “I don’t think I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views of how he goes about life.”
Patrick Mahomes also shared his thoughts about the speech. “I’ve known him for seven years. I judge him by the character he shows every single day, and that’s a good person. That’s someone who cares about the people around him, cares about his family, and wants to make a good impact in society.”
