In a statement to People, the Irresistible hitmaker confirmed the unfortunate news.
“Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she explained. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
The announcement comes just weeks after Jessica Simpson was spotted out and about with her eldest children, Maxwell and Ace, without Eric Johnson or her wedding ring.
Simpson and Johnson were first romantically linked in May 2010 and went public with their relationship a couple of months later. Although they got engaged in November 2010, the duo had two children, Maxwell in 2012 and Ace in 2013, before tying the knot in 2014.
“We’ve had two wedding dates, but he keeps knocking me up!” Simpson while appearing on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in 2013, per Newsweek. “I’m doing it very backwards, I know.” She also joked that she would try not to get pregnant after they next set a date. “I’ll just just keep my legs crossed, I guess.”
The couple exchanged vows on July 5, 2014.
“We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love, having made our eternal commitment,” they revealed to People following the ceremony. “To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends, and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”
Nearly five years later, Simpson and Johnson welcomed their third child, Birdie
