Butker spoke to Benedictine College’s graduating class on May 11, shocking viewers and sparking controversy with a “Handmaid’s Tale” speech. During his speech, he claimed one of the most important roles in a woman’s life was “homemaker.”
Brooke Lynne, wife of Butker’s former teammate, shared her opinion on the matter.
“I’m going to sound controversial since Mitch was teammates with him for many years,” Brooke wrote on her Instagram Story. “I’ve stayed quiet about a lot of things, but this is absolutely so gross and backwards to me.”
“‘All of my success is made possible…etc…because my wife embraced the most important title of all: homemaker,'” she quoted Butker. “This is what we’re telling young women graduating college? That the most important thing they can become is a homemaker??? What in the Handmaids Tell is this crap?”
Brooke also called out Butker’s reference to Taylor Swift, who is dating Butker’s teammate Travis Kelce.
Butker stated, “As my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘Familiarity breeds contempt.'”
The football star quoted Taylor’s song “Bejeweled” as a way to prove his point. However, Brooke called out, Swift’s views certainly do not align with Butker’s message.
“I find it odd he quoted Taylor Swift in his propaganda piece,” Brooke responded. “Is he unaware of her very public views?” she then added Taylor’s song “You Need To Calm Down” in the background of her Instagram Story.
Former Chief’s Star Mitch Schwartz’s Wife Speaks Out About Harrison Butker’s Commencement Speech
Brooke continued to slam Butker’s “Handmaid’s Tale” speech on her Instagram this week.
“Telling young women on their college graduation day, after years of hard work, that the thing they probably most look forward to in life is becoming someone’s wife….I beg your pardon?” she asked.
“I value and respect whatever a woman chooses for her life. But it is never, ever a man’s place to tell women what their roles are,” she continued.
She added that she feels “sad for his daughter.”
Butker’s commencement speech has received mixed reviews, with some people praising him as a “hero” and others slamming him for “misogyny.”
In his speech, Butker also labeled Pride Month a “deadly sin” and condemned abortion as “the murder of innocent babies.”
