Brian McCardie of Line of Duty and Time has died at the age of 59. The actor’s sister, Sarah McCardie, announced Brian’s passing on X earlier this morning.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many. Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday 28th April,” she wrote.
“A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon,” she continued in a series of posts. “We love him and will miss him greatly; please remember Brian in your thoughts.”
Sarah then shared that funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days and asked for privacy for her family during this time.
Fans, Colleagues Mourn the Death of Brian McCardie
Brian was well-known for his roles in Time (2021), Line of Duty, Filth (2013), and Rob Roy (1995), among others. His cause of death was not yet revealed. However, his sister noted he “passed away suddenly at home.”
Many fans, colleagues, and loved ones of Brian are shocked and devastated by the news. Specifically, his agent, United Agents, published a statement on social media.
“We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brian McCardie’s sudden death,” they wrote. “He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Other individuals shared their condolences on X. “Was shocked when I learned this sad news earlier Sarah. All strength, love and positive spirit with yourself, Martin and all your family at this time,” author Matt McGlone wrote.
“So sorry to hear this news. I’ve been lucky enough to work with Brian several times, including the production I’m currently working on,” another user added. “He was extremely talented & a real tonic; could make me smile & laugh effortlessly. Sending my thoughts to you all.”
One person also wrote, “I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Brian a little bit from The Melville on William St in Edinburgh, from around 2010-12. My partner and I had not long moved to the West End and Brian was always really generous and warm with us. Spent many, many entertaining hours with him.”
