Days after it was reported that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh dropped her father’s last name, more details about the ongoing feud within the Pitt-Jolie family have surfaced.

A source close to the situation told Us Weekly that Pitt objected to Shiloh testifying on her custody arrangement preferences when she was 14 years old. The insider pointed out that Shiloh, now 18, was one of Pitt and Jolie’s children wanting to testify during the 2021 hearing.
The judge ruled in favor of Brad Pitt and awarded him joint custody. However, not long after, a court agreed to Jolie’s appeal to remove the judge due to his business relationship with Pitt’s attorneys.
A fellow insider also told the media outlet that Pitt and his daughter’s bond shifted due to the family feud. “She [used to be] very close with Brad and his family,” the source pointed out. “But that relationship [changed] in recent years.”
Years after the custody battle, Shiloh filed paperwork to legally change her name and drop her father’s surname. She wishes to go by “Jolie” instead.
A third source went on to say that Shiloh hired her own lawyer to handle the case. The request has not been approved, but legal expert Neama Rahmani says the request may be granted soon.
“Anyone can file to change their name if they’re 18 years old. And obviously, parents can do it for a minor,” Rahmani, explained. “These requests in California, they’re liberally granted. So people can change their names as long as it’s not for a misleading reason.”
Rahmani is notably not involved in Shiloh’s case.
Brad Pitt Reportedly ‘Devastated’ Over Shiloh’s Decision to Drop His Surname
Meanwhile, a source revealed earlier this week that Brad Pitt is “devastated” over his daughter Shiloh’s decision to drop his surname.
“It was a symbol of a deeper estrangement that has been brewing for years,” the source explained. A second insider shared Pitt is “finding it extremely difficult to come to terms with” the name drop.
A third source noted that despite him not having a strong relationship with his children currently, Brad Pitt is “not ready to give up on them.”
Along with Shiloh, other children in the Pitt-Jolie family have also dropped the Pitt name. Zahara made headlines after joining the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority chapter at Spelman College. She introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie.”
Pitt and Jolie’s daughter, Vivienne, was notably credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in The Outsiders Playbill. It has yet to be determined if the 15-year-old has made the decision to legally change her name.
