The incident occurred at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills on Saturday afternoon. Garcia reportedly caused damage to hotel property – including his room and the corridor.
“[Ryan] was taken by the BHPD to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment,” said his attorney Darin Chavez in an update. “To our knowledge, [he] may be charged with public intoxication.”
Ryan Garcia Sounds Off After Arrest
Ryan Garcia released a statement about his arrest on X (formerly Twitter) on June 9.
“I feel like I’m Ryan Spears, Aka Britney Spears,” the boxer posted. “This sucks 🙁 I never hurt anyone. I’ve only ever loved everyone, prayed for people, and tried to make a change in this cruel world.”
“I have to be at this weird hospital. They are trying to give me medicine. And they have me on hold for who knows how long; they will determine. Pray for me.”
Boxing Star Tests Positive For PEDs
Garcia was recently in hot water after testing positive for Ostarine the days before and after his fight with Devin Haney. The performance-enhancing drug promotes muscle growth almost instantaneously. Garcia maintains his innocence. His legal team released a statement claiming substance contamination was the cause of the positive tests.
“The test results from samples of two supplements declared by Ryan Garcia on VADA Doping Control Forms, signed on April 19th and 20th, have returned positive for Ostarine contamination,’’ the statement read.
Attached are copies of the “confidential test reports.” They showed Ostarine detected in two supplements. NutraBIO super carb raspberry lemonade and strawberry-flavored Body Heath Perfect Amino.
“This confirms what we have consistently maintained. Ryan was a victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally used any banned or performance-enhancing substances,’’ the statement continued. “So Any claims to the contrary, questioning Ryan’s integrity as a clean fighter, are unequivocally false and defamatory.’’
However, Ryan’s opponent Devin Haney, is not buying any of his excuses.
“We learned about this situation not too long ago. It’s so unfortunate Ryan cheated. [He] disrespected both the fans, and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice,” Haney said.
“This puts the fight in a completely different light. People die in this sport. This is not a joking matter.”
