The New York Times spoke to Hollywood producer Carol Baum, and she shared some harsh comments about Sweeney.
“There’s an actress that everybody loves now — Sydney Sweeney,” Baum said, stating that she watched her recent film, Anyone But You, because she “wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her.”
“I don’t get Sydney Sweeney,” she added.
Baum teaches a producing course at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Apparently, she brought up Sweeney as a topic of discussion for her class.
“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?'”
She then went on to say that no one had a solid answer to her question. Someone then proposed a new question.
“Well, if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?”
“I said, ‘Well, that’s a really good question … that’s a very hard question to answer because we all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made.'”
Sydney Sweeney’s Rep Claps Back at Producer’s ‘Sad’ Criticism
In response to Baum’s harsh comments about Sweeney, her rep shared some words of support for the Euphoria star.
“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman,” her rep said.
“If tearing down another woman is what Carol has learned during her decades in the business, and she feels it appropriate to pass that on to her students, then that’s truly shameful. To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms Baum’s character.”
Additionally, Teddy Schwarzman, Sweeney’s former producer who worked with her on Immaculate, said Sweeney is “not only one of the most talented actresses I’ve worked with, but also incredibly smart, kind and humble.”
“I’m not sure why someone who claims to still be a producer would make such terribly ugly comments, but I can assure everyone that Sydney is at least beautiful on the inside.”
After receiving hate from many Sydney Sweeney fans, Baum admits that she regrets her comments about Sweeney.
In fact, she allegedly told TMZ “she wishes she never would’ve made her original comments, and that crapping on an actor like that in public usually isn’t her style.”
