Following two less-than-stellar seasons as first-string quarterback, it appears Aaron Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets may come to an end soon. According to Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer, Rodgers was told that the Jets were moving on from him during a meeting with the team last week.

“If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue to play,” Glazer wrote on X (formerly Twitter. “Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won’t be for the Jets.”
Aaron Rodgers played for the Green Bay Packers for 18 seasons before being traded to the Jets in 2023. During his time with the Packers, the quarterback was named NFL MVP in 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021.
Rodgers confidently emerged strong during his first season with the Jets. However, he tore his Achilles tendon in his left ankle during his first official game with the team. He didn’t play during the entire 2023 NFL season, which led to the Jets’ finishing a 7-10 record.
During the 2024 season, Aaron Rodgers started all 17 games with the Jets. He threw 3,897 yards, 28 touchdown passes, and 11 interceptions. However, the team finished with a 5-12 record.
The move not to bring back Rodgers is considered not shocking. The team has made some changes, including replacing its general manager, Joe Douglas, and head coach, Robert Saleh. Both were fired mid-season. After being let go by the Jets, Saleh received a defense coaching job offer with the 49ers.
Rodgers has not publicly spoken out about the meeting.
