A spokesperson for the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office revealed to TMZ that Evans, who died on April 20, passed away as a result of suicide by hanging. She was pronounced dead at the scene, which was in her New York City apartment.
The official cause of death was revealed following the release of toxicology results.
Evan Evans, who was known for her role as the creator of Club Rat, was reportedly discovered by a friend. They had just seen her the day before. They had a key to the apartment and went to check up on her. While being questioned by authorities, the friend shared they had no idea she was depressed or emotionally disturbed.
Another friend also stated that a note was left, but the contents have not been disclosed.
Eva Evans’ sister, Lila Joy, initially revealed on social media that she passed away. “Please share this post so that it reaches everyone it needs to,” she wrote. “Yesterday my family received news that our sweet, fabulous, creative, caring, hilarious, Eva, my beautiful sister, has died.”
Eva Evans is survived by Lila as well as her other sisters Zoe and Sofi and her mother Heather. Her father, Matt Baumgardner died in 2018.
Eva Evans’ Sister Shares Heartfelt Eulogy
Following Eva Evans’ funeral, her sister Lily Joy, posted the heartfelt eulogy that she wrote for the TikTok star.
“Giving Eva’s eulogy was a privilege, and, in small part,” Lily wrote. “Because it gave me something I had to deliver on, which kept me standing in the wake of a loss that will make me weak in the knees for all time.”
Lily shared Eva Evans will never truly cease to exist. “One of her superpowers is in her ability to imprint a piece of herself into the people who came into her sphere. While it may now feel that a piece of you is gone; she gave you that piece to carry and to shepherd.”
Lily also used the children’s book The Rainbow Fish as an analogy, noting it was a book that she and Eva’s mother, Heather, used to read to them. “This beautiful fish has these foil scales and the rest of the fish are plain and envious,” she said. “So an octopus gives this larger-than-life fish the advice to share its foiled scales with the plain fish so that it will be happy.”
She continued, “In this analogy, we are obviously all the plain fish and Eva is the rainbow fish, bestowing her foiled scales so we can swim the ocean feeling a little more beautiful, a little more Eva.”
Lily then shared that energies do not die and everyone has the privilege to carry pieces of Eva through their lives with them until they too become pieces. “Take her to Morocco. Take her to your film premiers. Save her a seat at your wedding. Let her hold your children. Through us, she will live a remarkable life. And we will only live that much fuller with her spirit to champion our way.”
