The 49-year-old actress and talk show host recently shared her perspective on the best “antidote” to life’s often demanding responsibilities.
“I always find, whether it’s on the show or in a magazine or on social media, nostalgia, like animals, give this sense of warmth and humor and joy,” Barrymore recently told People.
“We need that in the world, we need that, probably very scientifically,’ she continued. “We need that hit of something very positive in our brain as we’re processing the world at large, as well as our own unique little journeys that are always filled with a lot of pressures and a lot of taking care of people, and a lot of trying to navigate everything.”
“I just think animals are the antidote to everything, they just make us feel so good,” Drew Barrymore reasoned. “Unlike a lot of things that make us feel good too, they’re not very demanding either. We’re so lucky to have them.”
The Reason Pets Are on Drew Barrymore’s Mind These Days
Of course, there’s a reason pets are on the Firestarter star’s mind these days. Ring, Amazon’s home security company, has teamed up with Drew Barrymore for a new campaign titled “Ring Pet Portraits.”
The campaign encourages pet parents to support animal shelters in need by sharing their favorite pet videos and pictures. From now until June 14, for each pet video or picture posted with #RingPets on Instagram or TikTok, Ring will donate $10 to the ASPCA and local animal shelters, up to $500,000 total.
Barrymore, herself a proud pet mom of seven, stars in a new commercial for the campaign. In the short film, she reveals the campaign alongside her rescue dog and co-star, Douglas.
She humorously informs Douglas that he’s ineligible for the competition, branding him a “nepo puppy.” Even Jeremy, her bearded dragon, makes a cameo, looking distraught over also being unable to participate.
“It was absolutely love at first sight for all seven of my pets that fill my home with so much joy and a little dose of chaos from time to time,” Barrymore revealed in a stament.
“I’m honored to join Ring on this important mission, celebrate the special bonds and pride pet parents have for their animals, and help generate donations to the ASPCA and local animal shelters.”
