According to a news release issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Prowell was charged in connection with the alleged murders on September 8. The release detailed that the incidents occurred years apart, beginning in 2021.
On July 20, 2021, Miguel Angel King, 51, met Prowell after interacting on a dating app, the release detailed. Prowell allegedly shot King to death and then stole his vehicle. The vehicle in question was subsequently found, and evidence found inside linked Prowell to the murder, the DA’s office alleged.
Then, on August 21, 2023, Robert Gutierrez, 53, met with Prowell after interacting on the same dating app, the release said. Two days later, Gutierrez was reported missing and has yet to be found.
However, Guitierrez’s vehicle was allegedly found in Prowell’s garage during his arrest. Similar to King’s case, evidence linked Prowell to Guitierrez’s death, the DA’s office said.
Victim Escaped, Man Charged
Finally, on February 22, 2025, a third man, unnamed, met Prowell. They had been interacting on the same dating app Prowell used to meet the other two men, the release said. The man was allegedly bound, had his wallet stolen, and was beaten with a baseball bat by Prowell.
However, the victim managed to somehow free himself and escape. Prowell is accused of chasing the man with his vehicle, hitting him, and breaking his leg.
As a result, Rockim Prowell was charged with two counts of murder with a multiple murders special circumstance allegation. He also faces charges of attempted murder, two counts of carjacking, second-degree burglary, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
If convicted of his charges, Proweel faces the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
“Imagine the terror and horror these victims felt after being duped into believing they were meeting for one reason, only to face inexplicable violence,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “These were predatory acts that showed a total disregard of life.”
According to the release, at the time of his arrest, Prowell was on probation for two cases of burglary committed between 2019 and 2021. As reported by Fox 11, he was linked at the time to more than 30 cases of burglary, reportedly using a mask.
