According to ABC 7, the late actress’ remains were found inside her destroyed home in Altadena following the Eaton Fire. Curry’s family learned about her tragic fate just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Dalyce Kelley, who was the part-time caregiver of her grandmother Daylce Curry, told ABC 7 that she dropped off Curry around midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 7. She had spent a whole day in the hospital.
Kelley left that evening to care for another family member. Hours later, she awoke to a text alert that the power had gone out at Curry’s home. She then rushed to the scene to discover that one of the Los Angeles wildfires had started to burn Altadena.
Although she attempted to go find her grandmother, an officer told her when she reached a barricade, it was too late.
“‘I’m sorry your grandmother’s property is gone,’” she quoted the officer. “‘It’s totally burned down.’”
The officer suggested that Kelley check at the Pasadena Civic Center, where evacuated residents were sent.
Unfortunately, when she made her way to the center, Kelley couldn’t find Curry.
Dalyce Curry’s Granddaughter Was Finally Able to Access Her Home Days After One of the Wildfires Destroyed Altadena
On Friday, Jan. 10, Kelley finally visited her grandmother’s home with a member of the National Guard. The Eaton Fire had left the area in ruins.
“It was total devastation,” Kelley said about the Blue Brothers actress’ home after the wildfires. “Everything was gone except her blue Cadillac.”
Curry’s other granddaughters stated that while she was 95 years old, the late actress had some life left to live.
“She was very active,” granddaughter Loree Beamer-Wilkinson shared. “You would not think she was 95.”
Before finding out about her grandmother’s death, Kelley said she was “still praying for a miracle” but had feared the worst.
“Honestly, we don’t feel very hopeful that she’s still here with us,” Kelley added.
Kelley also took to Facebook to pay tribute to Curry.
“We had a great run,” Kelley stated. “She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”
Along with The Blues Brothers, Curry appeared in other major films, including Lady Sings the Blues and The Ten Commandments.
At least 24 people, including Curry, have reportedly died in the Los Angeles wildfires. The Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst wildfires first erupted on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The blazes have destroyed over 12,000 structures and scored over 60 square miles.
While the Hurst Fire is seemingly contained, the Palisades and Eaton Fire are still burning.
