Blake Lively, the belle of the Met Gala ball, skipped out on fans Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion extravaganza. This is the second year in a row that the actress and alcohol beverage mogul and husband Ryan Reynolds have missed the event.
Perhaps it’s due to the duo slipping into the malaise of middle age and enjoying family life. According to Elle, the couple chose to spend a night of quality family time at home with their four children, rather than attend the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”-themed ball.
Lively, aged 36, who served as a co-chair for the 2022 event alongside Reynolds, 47, has been spotted around NYC this month. This has led to speculation about her attendance at Monday’s red carpet event.
Of course, Blake Lively fans raged on social media due to her being a Met Gala no-show. “#BlakeLively not being at the Met Gala basically just fizzles the event,” one fan tweeted. “Honestly, they shouldn’t have it unless @blakelively is in attendance. It’s her show, everyone else is just a guest,” they added.
“Where is the Queen!!??!? #MetGala is incomplete without Blake Lively,” a second X denizen agreed.
“Zendaya had to show up twice on the red carpet to make up for the loss of all these queens not showing up,” another fan quipped.
Blake Lively Wasn’t the Only Met Gala Favorite to Skip This Year’s Event
However, Lively wasn’t the only prominent figure absent from Monday’s dazzling array of stars.
Fellow Met favorite Rihanna missed the 2024 Gala due to flu after her Miami trip for the F1 Grand Prix. Jared Leto was absent because of his band’s “Seasons World Tour.” Other Met Gala favorites, such as Lady Gaga, Hailey Bieber, and Bella Hadid, were notably missing from Monday’s event.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, the world’s favorite power duo, also gave the Met steps a miss. Both were invited. Swift was unable to attend because her “Eras” tour resumed on May 6 in Paris.
Kelce, on the other hand, was spotted at two high-profile sporting events over the weekend. He appeared at both the Kentucky Derby and F1 Grand Prix.
However, without Taylor on his arm, it’s unlikely he’d bother to attend a Gala. Travis famously couldn’t even be bothered to support Swift at this year’s Grammys, despite being less than an hour away by private jet.
