While introducing Lainey Wilson, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt, Davis said he originally hoped that Gosling would show up to the event and sing the song. But the trio was a “happy surprise.”
“I got an idea last week,” Davis told Entertainment Weekly. “I want this night to be different from any music night of the year, so I called [Ronson] and I’m like, ‘Mark, would you and Ryan Gosling consider performing, I’m Just Ken?’”
Although Ronson was quick to say yes, Gosling was reportedly away with family and didn’t make it to the event. Ronson suggested that Lainey Wilson sing the song instead.
I’m Just Ken is up for Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The song is going up against other Barbie soundtrack hits, Barbie World and Dance The Night.
Lainey Wilson Talks About Her 2024 Grammy Nominations
Lainey Wilson has been nominated for two Grammys. They are Best County Album for her Bell Bottom County album and Best County Duo/Group Performance for Save Me alongside Jelly Roll.
While speaking to Grammy.com, Wilson stated that her music stardom is a “testament” of “believin’ and receivin’.”
“These moments are going by so quick — it’s important for me to realize what’s happening,” she explained. “And accept all these gifts that the Lord has given me with a gracious heart. I’m a firm believer in believin’ and receivin’, and that’s exactly what’s happening.”
Lainey Wilson then admitted that she has yet to soak up every single bit of her career. “Because it’s been a million incredible things happening. But whenever I have a moment, I try to just step away and really pay attention to what’s happening. And I just take myself even back a year ago and I’m like, My gosh!”
When asked if she had a chance to properly celebrate the duo nomination with Jelly Roll, Wilson admitted that due to schedules she hasn’t. “I love him. I’m just such a fan of him on and off the stage.”
“So proud for him. This could not be happening for a better human. I’m thankful for people like him, especially in this industry, for a lot of different reasons.”
