After just one year of marriage, Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller are filing for divorce.
According to PEOPLE, the WNBA champion and NFL tight end filed a joint petition for divorce on April 23.
On social media, Plum shared the following message with her audience:
“I’m devastated. I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go,” she wrote. “God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends.”
“One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day,” Plum continued. “Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy. Much love KP.”
She then ended her message with the bible verse, “Philippians 1:6.” The verse means: “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Plum and Waller dated for about a year before tying the knot in March of 2023. After about a year of marriage, they’ve called it quits.
Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller File for Divorce
Just after getting married, Waller was traded to the New York Giants. He recently told PEOPLE he was considering leaving the NFL.
“I’m at the point now where I’m like, ‘Is this something that I want to continue to invest my time, invest my body, invest my mind in?’ And I’ve got to come to a decision on that,” he said.
It’s clear that Waller has a lot on his mind regarding his future.
“I’m a guy who’s into a lot more than football,” Waller added. “And football’s done a lot for me, I’m so grateful, but it’s a grind, and you’ve got to be 100% willing to suit up for it, and I’ve got to decide if I’m 100% or not.”
Plum and Waller’s decision to divorce is still unclear, but Plum’s statement confirms she believes she did everything she could to make it work.
