Comedian and longtime Trump critic Kathy Griffin admitted she was “really hurt” that she was not a guest on The Jimmy Kimmel Show while Rosie O’Donnell was hosting.

During a recent episode of her Talk Your Head Off podcast, Griffin spoke out about not making an appearance on the late-night talk show.
“I love a good pit cry,” she explained. “I’m going to be open and honest and hope you understand. And I’m trying to talk about something bigger than a TV talk show. But, you know, I talk a lot about Hollywood and give you the inside scoop, etc. But this one’s really personal.”
Noting it was “embarrassing to say,” Griffin said, “My feelings are really hurt that I was not invited to go on Rosie’s week of the Jimmy Kimmel show.”
O’Donnell hosted the late-night talk show last week while Kimmel was on vacation.
“We’re good pals,” Griffin said about O’Donnell. “We’re like sisters, and everybody knows sisters fight, sisters and brothers fight. Best friends fight, relatives, co-workers fight. And we’re not even fighting.”
She then noted that she hoped to appear on the show during O’Donnell’s hosting week. Especially when Kimmel said he picked the comedian as a “special treat to Donald Trump.”
“I thought, ‘Oh, fantastic,” Griffin continued. “He’s leaning into it, and his views are honestly leaning more to the left.”
However, things didn’t go the way she thought it would. “And, instead, what happened was quite the opposite, and in my own community of Hollywood, of stand-up comedy, where you’re supposed to be edgy,” Griffin pointed out. “You’re supposed to make political statements as well as be funny.”
“In my opinion, that’s what the greats do,” she said. “That’s who the greats I admire did. It did not go that way for me initially.”
Griffin Recently Caught Up With O’Donnell
While continuing to vent, Griffin pointed out that she had recently caught up with O’Donnell while on a flight to Los Angeles. She even told the fellow comedian she would love to be a guest.
“I mean, think about it,” she said. “You’ve got these two women who share this very unique thing in common. And while what happened to me was much more extreme than what happened to Rosie, it’s pretty unusual that you’ve got these two women that have been so outspoken about — well, he wasn’t the president when she talked about him on The View.”
Griffin further noted, “But, he was the president when I talked about him, and as I have spoken about before, most of Hollywood turned on me overnight.”
O’Donnell has since responded to Griffin on Instagram, writing, “Kathy – shoulda called me honey – I didn’t choose the guests…”
