At the Tuesday shindig on April 30, the dynamic duo of 43-year-old Gosling and 44-year-old Mikey Day reunited. They reprised their roles as Beavis and Butt-Head, fresh off their viral Saturday Night Live sketch from April 13.
Earlier in the evening, Ryan Gosling struck a pose for a traditional photo opportunity alongside his co-star Emily Blunt, dressed in a red carpet-appropriate mint suit.
However, Ryan hit the red carpet again, this time sporting a prosthetic nose and a blond wig to nail the Beavis look, complete with the legendary Death Rock t-shirt and shorts.
Perhaps Gosling is keen to shed his famous turn as Ken in Barbie before his new film drops.
Ryan Gosling’s Turn as Beavis on ‘SNL’ Has Garnered Over 13 Million Views on YouTube
In the original sketch, SNL cast member Heidi Gardner took on the role of a news anchor, interviewing a professor (played by Kenan Thompson) about the perils of artificial intelligence.
However, Thompson’s character was repeatedly distracted, unable to concentrate on Gardner’s questions due to Jeff (Day) and Dean (Gosling) in the audience, whose striking similarity to ’90s cartoon characters was uncannily distracting.
Gosling struggled to contain his laughter during the sketch, which has garnered more than 13 million views on YouTube so far. Gardner herself broke multiple times during the sketch as well.
However, SNL veteran player Thompson, infamous for breaking in sketches, managed to keep it together for once. “It’s hit or miss. Sometimes I can hold it, sometimes I can’t,” he admitted to Variety after the sketch aired.
Thompson revealed that during rehearsals, the sketch left him “in tears,” to such an extent that he was paralyzed and found himself unable to speak.
“I was literally quivering and then I started to panic. Because I was like, I can’t talk without cry-talking. I don’t want to waste the line! It could throw off everything. It was like, three seconds of just chaos,” he recalled to the outlet.
