One of this week’s tabloids claims Zac Efron and Lily Collins are dating again after the two had a brief fling several years ago. Gossip Cop can debunk the story. We’ve learned it’s false.
According to Star, the two stars reignited a romance while working together on the upcoming Ted Bundy movie, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. A supposed insider tells the outlet, “They’ve had amazing nights together. They’ve always had a spark, and they were so good together — but back then Zac was a huge star, and Lily was still starting out.”
The alleged source further contends that the co-stars “have been hanging out loads since filming wrapped, and if Lily has her way, it will continue.” The questionable tipster adds, “No one will be surprised if Lily tries to get serious with Zac again. It’ll make for a very interesting publicity trail when it’s time to promote their movie, that’s for sure!”
Gossip Cop, however, checked in with a source close to the actor, who tells us the magazine’s report is simply “not true.” Our trustworthy insider, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, assures us Efron and Collins aren’t dating. The two stars have remained friends since their brief romance back in 2012, but they’re not an item again. The outlet’s phony story was seemingly concocted simply because the two are co-starring in a movie together.
It’s worth noting, the actor’s involvement in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile has resulted in a lot of untrue tabloid stories. Back in October, Gossip Cop called out Star‘s sister publication, OK!, for falsely claiming Efron was worried about the movie being “too gory” for mainstream audiences. In an interview, however, the actor noted that the film is more of a character study of the serial killer and doesn’t glorify his crimes.
Shortly before that, Gossip Cop busted Star‘s other sister outlet, Life & Style, for wrongly alleging that Efron acted like a “jerk and a creep” on the set of his serial killer biopic. The unreliable magazine insisted that the actor got too deep into character and was nasty to the cast and crew when cameras stopped rolling. That story was also a complete fabrication.
Gossip Cop also debunked a National Enquirer story claiming Efron thought he looked “too handsome” in his role as the serial killer. In reality, Bundy was known for charming his female victims with his good looks, and it’s one of the reasons the handsome actor was cast in the role. This latest report about Efron dating his co-star is similarly bogus.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
