Will Smith and Jada Pinkett‘s 22-year marriage is not “sham,” despite a bogus tabloid report claiming the spouses are “leading separate lives.” The story isn’t remotely accurate. Gossip Cop can bust it.
According to the Globe, Smith and Pinkett have drifted apart more than ever now that the actress is hosting her own talk show, Red Table Talk, on Facebook. An alleged insider tells the magazine that Smith is “persona non grata” at his wife’s office, where she spends “all her time.” The questionable source adds, “It’s her domain, her staff and her projects. If he shows up, she tells him to get out, he’s distracting her. She’s doing her show and planning her own future as exec producer while he’s elsewhere doing his own thing.”
Although Smith and Pinkett both have busy careers, the idea that the actress’s work has caused a rift between them isn’t true. In fact, the Men in Black star has appeared on his wife’s talk show several times. In September, in fact, Smith used Red Table Talk to set up an “emergency” family meeting, where he was joined by Pinkett, her mother and his three kids Willow, Jaden and Trey. Pinkett even noted during the show that her husband called the show’s executive producer himself to organize the episode. Simply put, Pinkett certainly hasn’t shut out Smith from being involved in her show. That “emergency” family meeting turned out to be Smith asking for help with his weight gain and eating habits.
From there, the tabloid recycles old rumors about the spouses having an open relationship. However, Gossip Cop already called out the Globe‘s sister publication, Star, when it wrongly reported last year that Smith and Pinkett have an “open marriage.” The actress herself has refuted this claim several times, even releasing a statement on Facebook to dismiss the notion.
From there, the magazine suggests Smith had an affair with Margot Robbie on the set of their 2013 movie Focus. Gossip Cop debunked these cheating allegations when they were published by Star this past June. The publication then contends that Smith is jealous of Pinkett’s friendship with rapper August Alsina. We also set the record straight on that phony storyline back in June.
Still, the seemingly phony source adds, “They’re rarely if ever seen on dates anymore. The feeling in Hollywood is that it’s turned into a complete marriage of convenience, and Will and Jada are not doing much, if anything, to stop that perception.” Actually, Pinkett supported Smith when he received an honor at a gala hosted by Tyler Perry in October. The actress shared photos of two at the event on her Instagram page, along with a congratulatory caption reading, “You are building such a beautiful legacy around a deeply impactful career in so many ways. I’m very proud of you. Continue to shine light on… joy.” Seems like a pretty solid date night to us. The two also showed a ton of PDA at the red carpet premiere of Gemini Man that same month.
The tabloid goes on to say that Smith and Pinkett probably won’t divorce, but only because their combined fortune and their kids are keeping them together. “The last thing either of them would want is to upset their kids by filing for divorce, let alone going through the headaches of having to divide up their asserts,” adds the suspicious insider. This section was thrown in just so the tabloid can save face when the spouses don’t end up splitting.
Smith and Pinkett have both admitted that their marriage is unconventional, giving each other freedom to pursue their separate passions, but nothing about it is a “sham,” as the tabloid alleges. The Globe‘s article is filled with false claims that Gossip Cop has already debunked, along with an equally untrue one involving the actress’s talk show causing marital issues. It’s all baseless.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
