During the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis spoke to his brother Jason about the loss. The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22, ending their winning streak at the Super Bowl. The team won back-to-back Super Bowls and would have made history as being the first time to win three in a row.
“It just wasn’t our day. Couldn’t find a lick of momentum,” Travis told his brother Jason. “I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field, trying to do something more than what I asked to do during plays. I wasn’t the best leader that I could be in motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool, and collected.”
Travis then said, “I put a lot of that on myself as, you know, the guy that’s been in the building for 12 years and seen a lot of football and actually seen a situation just like this in the Super Bowl, talking about the Tampa Bay Super Bowl.”
The NFL star further admitted that losing the Super Bowl was a tough pill to swallow. “It wasn’t the play calls. It was the cumulative effort of everybody just not finding a way to get it done, man. To happen on the biggest stage sucks, but to have it happen for the second time of my career on the biggest stage, man, it’s a tough pill to swallow.”
Travis Kelce then praised the Philadelphia Eagles for their big Super Bowl win. “I just have to tip my hat to the Eagles. They were firing on all cylinders coming out. It just felt like we just never had control over what was going on in that game.”
Regarding whether or not he will be retiring from the NFL, Travis is taking some time to figure out his future in the organization. “I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year,” he added. “Right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m kicking every can that I can down the road.”
Travis Kelce Previously Stated That He and His Teammates Hadn’t Played ‘That Bad’ All Year
Travis Kelce spoke to reporters about how he and his teammates played as he made his way into the locker room after the game.
“There’s a lot that goes into it. You don’t lose like that without everything going bad,” he explained. “Couldn’t get it going offensively. I mean they just got after us on all three phases — and then on top of that, turnovers, penalties.”
He then admitted that he and his teammates “haven’t played that bad all year.”
