“She was my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky,” Laga wrote in the post’s caption. “I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always.”
The post featured photos of Bell with Laga’s children. Laga didn’t reveal her mother’s cause of death. However, one of the photos showed Bell had an oxygen tank.
Instagram users took to the post’s comment section to offer their condolences.
“Sending our love,” Tamron Hall wrote.
Today contributor Joy Bauer also wrote, “So much love” with a heart and prayer emoji.
Al Roker and Alice Bell got married in 1984. They first crossed paths at New York’s WNBC, where Bell produced the news program Live at Five. The former couple adopted Courtney as an infant in 1987.
Although details about the divorce were not revealed, the New York Post revealed Al Roker and Alice Bell’s union lasted a decade. Roker went on to marry fellow TV journalist Deborah Roberts in 1995. They share two children, Leila, 26, and son Nick, 22.
Laga previously praised Roberts as her “bonus mom.” In a September 2023 post on Instagram, she wrote, “More blessings, love, joy, and peace in your life today and forever” while celebrating the journalist’s birthday.
Laga also included Roberts in her Mother’s Day 2022 post. “Happy Mother’s Day to the three most important women in my life: My mom Alice, my stepmother Deborah and my mother in law Barbara.”
Al Roker hasn’t publicly spoken about Alice Bell’s passing. However, he didn’t appear on Today for the Tuesday broadcast. He returned on Wednesday.
